Grace Lutheran services are unique. During most worship services, there is no one at the front of the church.
In the past, during a different economic situation, the town of Sitka and our church were bustling with a pastor and parsonage. However, in the 1990's the economy changed the population of Sitka, and our church. Unfortunately that meant supporting a Pastor (and his family) was not possible, so our Pastor was released to another calling.
However, this didn't spell the end of church services, the remaining members headed the call to not give up meeting together!
A sister church in Anchorage (Shepherd of the Hills) initially provided their services over a telephone link (tele-convener or bridge) and then the Internet as well!
This no doubt seems odd to many. But assuredly, the congregation is the same, as is the underlying message. The only difference is not having the presenter in the same room as you.
